OUTSET
Outset is a new multi-genre music venue on Elston in Chicago, built to transform the city's live music scene. The brand had to feel like it had always been there, rooted in Chicago's music history but made for the modern concert-goer. As Creative Director, I led the team that built the identity, drawing on the great Chicago music-venue identities of the 1970s for a look that reads as iconic rather than new.
But I didn't stop at the brand. I worked directly with ownership and interiors firm Barker and Nestor to design the space itself: the proscenium, the green rooms, the upstairs and downstairs bars, the outdoor space. The result is a venue where the brand and the building are one piece of work, the same idea running from the patio to the proscenium.
